You should be able to find it each, just google AP patch for pokemon heartgold or something. You could also try finding a pre-patched one. Also know pokemon games have anti-piracy built into them, so you will need to patch the rom dump or your pokemon will not gain any exp. Try re-dumping it, or if you downloaded it go to another source. Leave the rest default, other then settings you know what they change and things for controls/hotkeys. There shouldnt be much other settings you need to change.
